Color makes up a large part of the creative process and can often steer the direction of new patterns and products for the year. The Lola Valentina team tuned in to see what Pantone deemed the color that will represent the coming New Year and were excited to see that the pastel, youth and health inspired “Peach Fuzz” won the vote.
About Pantone
Pantone is widely known for its color matching system first introduced in the 1960’s and first introduced the “color of the year” as a way to keep the conversation about color relevant. Since its introduction in 1999, people tune in towards the end of the year to see what the Pantone Color Institution panel predicts what color we will see mostly in the New Year. The decision is based on current events, fashion and art trends, blockbuster films, etc. and by using forecasting tools and color psychology a decision is made.
PEACH FUZZ
Pantone states “Pantone 13-1023 Peach Fuzz captures our desire to nurture ourselves and others. It’s a velvety gentle peach tone whose all-embracing spirit enriches mind, body, and soul.” This decision is quite different from the vibrant red tone “Viva Magenta” that was chosen last year meant to evoke strength and grace as the world emerged from the world-wide pandemic.
In a year that has been so busy, the Barbie movie, Taylor Swift breaking records, huge advances in artificial intelligence (chat gtp), and impending political elections, perhaps the thought process behind Peach Fuzz is more of a manifestation for a calm year ahead rather than a reflection of where we are currently at. Never-the-less Lola Valentina is taking the inspiration and research concepts in stride and going into the New Year with fresh design concepts for all things pattern design and event decor.
